CEREAL CITY CONCERT BAND’S “AMERICA: A MUSICAL PORTRAIT” WINTER CONCERT
Winter Concert
Listen to the Cereal City Concert Band paint a musical portrait of American music. Under the direction of Dr. Stephen White, they will be performing their Winter Concert, "America: A Musical Portrait”, on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pennfield Performing Arts Center, 8299 Pennfield Rd, Battle Creek. You will enjoy such pieces as Variations on America by Charles Ives, The Strenuous Life by Scott Joplin, The Symphonic Gershwin by George Gershwin, and The Promise of Living by Aaron Copland. Kyra Wallace, President and CEO of the Southwestern Michigan Urban League, will introduce the band’s performance of A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse. This work – a quasi-tone poem - contains three contrasting sections which reflect Rosa’s early years, her years of racial strife and the quest for social equality, and her quiet strength and serenity. Collaborating on this concert are members of the Pennfield High School Band who will join us in performing Americans We by Henry Fillmore and Palayoloyo by John Swain, the latter being conducted by PHS Band Director, Blake Driver. Tickets are at the door: $10 for Adults and $5 for Students, Seniors 65+ and Veterans. Advance ticket sales are available by calling 269-962-2153. There will also be a 50/50 raffle at the event.
