CEREAL CITY CONCERT BAND'S "LIFT EVERY VOICE” WINTER CONCERT

Concert to feature African American composers to commenorate Black History Month; will also feature local soprano Carmen Bell

. This concert will feature African American composers to commemorate Black History Month. You will enjoy such pieces as Lift Every Voice and Sing arranged by Chris Creswell, Shenandoah arranged by Omar Thomas, Summerland by William Grant Still and Duke Ellington in Concert. Joining the band on stage for the world premiere of Somewhere Within is local soprano Carmen Bell. Ms. Bell joined the Kellogg Community College music faculty as a vocal instructor in 2012 and has taught private voice at Marshall Music Co. since 2002. She received a Masters of Music degree in voice from Eastern Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Western Michigan University. She is known for her dramatic and passionate performances and has performed in numerous operas throughout the country. The composition Somewhere Within was written by Flint-native Gary Powell Nash who received his PhD in music composition from Michigan State University and is currently Professor of Music at Fisk University in Nashville, TN.
